Important advice
Do not forget to
bring your LSP or ISIC! The employees at the ticket issuing counters do not accept the initial enrollment confirmation anymore - just if you bring your student card you will get a discount!
Where to sleep?
Where to eat?
After getting hungry from all the walking, you may just want to have a nice dish somewhere. In the city centre near the castle you can discover Liuks - a fastfood chain with special chairs outside - well, there aren't chairs, just swings. Swing around to keep your back healthy and in the meanwhile get your belly setisfied with for example Chinese food like Chicken with fried noodles/ rice, pizza 32/42 cm, kebab and sushi. There's food for every taste and also vegetarian dishes.
What to see?
There is definitely a lot to behold in Kaunas.
Pro Tipp: Before you start your sightseeing tour go to the city hall - free small maps including many sights and explanations in diffrerent languages are available.
From that point you can make up your mind, what to see or exclude, but we would recommend you not to miss these ones:
The St. Michael the Archangel Church is an astonishing former orthodox, now romean-catholic church, which sit enthroned in the center of a wide square next to the are academy. It is free of charge for visitors. The Kaunas Castle lies in central and is shaped quite interestingly. It contains a museum on Kaunasean history and you can climb up a small tower to get an overview over the old town. The entrance fee for students is only 1,20 EUR. Adults have to pay 2,50 EUR.
The Devils' museum is the only museum exhibiting a vast collection of devil sculptures in the world. This rather haunted place is just for the boldest of the boldest!
Access costs 1,50 EUR for students and 3 EUR for adults.
Other historic, free-to-visit locations are the numerous fortresses in Kaunas. We would advice you to take a glimpse at fort number 4, which is opened 24/7. It is an optimal place for historically interested persons and urban explorers, for there are just ruins and bunkers now. Take a flashlight and a friend if you dare and explore on your own!
