Unforgettable views in Trakai

Investing only 30 minutes in travelling, you will find yourself in a historic town and lake resort at the same time. This small cozy city offers a nice walk beside the lake or on the streets of Trakai. Definitely a place you should check and add to your ERASMUS Experience!

How to get there?

The easiest way to go to Trakai from Vilnius is by train. If you are a student, you have to pay only 0,80 EUR, if not - don't worry the regular price is just 1,60 EUR. An alternative will be to travel by bus and without any surprises - the price is the same.

Important advice
Do not forget to bring your student card (LSP or ISIC card) for verification! Otherwise you won't be able to get the discount!

Where to sleep?

You want it as cheap as possible? Great news, there is no need to stay as you can go early in the morning and come back late at the evening. The time is enough for some sightseeing, eating and even to enjoy a boat trip in the lake.

Where to eat?

Directly on the port you can find some restaurants. There you can try the typical food for the region called kibinai - 10-15 cm long pastries filled with meat or cottage cheese.

What to see and what to do?

The main and most beautiful sight is The Trakai Island Castle. There is an entrance fee of 4 EUR for students and seniors and the double price for adults. Going inside you will be able to visit the museum which is divided in plenty of rooms among all castle buildings.  A lot of different exhibitions show the life in Lithuania before, especially you can learn more about the history of the castle. Everything is very interactive, so be sure - it is enjoyable!
In the city you can find some interesting churches and feel the atmosphere of this small resort.

In case that you want some water activities you can participate in a 360-degree boat trip around the castle, rent a water wheel or do kayaking in the lake.
