When exploring the east of
Europe you should definitely consider to go south. The beautiful lady
named Krakow is waiting for you to conquer her. Fans of medieval
history and impressive architecture will surely fall in love.
The cheapest way to reach
your destination is the bus. ECOLINES offers direct bus lines for
around 20 Euros. The ride is going to take 9 hours. So be patient.
Alternatively you can use the railroad. This takes more time to
organize since there is no direct connection. Flying is not
recommended since there are no direct flights from Vilnius to Krakow.

If you want to explore the
old town of Krakow you should follow the 'royal route'. It's the most
popular route for tourists. Starting point is the Matejko square
where the baroque church of Florian and the monument of the Grunwald
battle is located. It remembers the victory of the Polish king over
the Teutonic knight order. Following the route you will discover the
Barbakan. This medieval fortress is very well preserved. Along the
way you will enter the Florians gate to the Florians street. It is
the only preserved gate to the city from medieval times. The street
offers lots of beautiful houses from different time periods. At the
end you reach the market square. One of the biggest in whole Europe.
Located in this place is the Gothic church of Maria. Build in the 14.
century this beauty contains one of the most important pieces of
Gothic art work, the altar carved by Veit Stoss. Every hour you can
hear trumpets playing from the tower in memorial of a trumped player
who was killed by an arrow in 1241. Also at the square you can find
the hall of cloth. A mall from the Renaissance era. You can shop
their for souvenirs and hand-crafted art. Continue the tour and you
will find yourself in the Grodzka street. It is the oldest street in
town and an assemblage of churches from various architectural
periods. Make sure to visit the Peters and Pauls church, the first
baroque church in Krakow. Final stop is the Wawel hill. Here you can
find the residence of the former Polish kings. The castle with
integrated church is the most historic building in whole Poland.
Enter the hexagonal courtyard and discover the history of the kings.
Within the throne room you can find the golden sword of the kings
which was used at the crowning ceremony.
After the exploration you
might starve and crave for a beer. Back at Florians street you will
find the Dobry Kumpel Pub which is located in an old cellar. Enjoy
your beer and the cozy vibe which comes along. Near to Marias church
you can find the House of Beer. The name is pretty self-explaining.
Alongside a variety of local brews they offer small and large dishes.
